The Uncle Dave Macon Days documentary takes an in-depth look at what makes Uncle Dave Macon Days the remarkable annual old time music and dance event that draws over 50,000 visitors every July to Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
This unique film is filled with vintage photos, event footage, dozens of interviews, and lots of old time music and dance. Ten percent of all proceeds from dvd sales will be given directly to the Uncle Dave Macon Days Committee which is solely comprised of volunteers and organizes the festival every year.
The film traces the festival's early history when local pharmacist, Jesse Messick, began "The Uncle Dave Macon Banjo Picking Contest" on the downtown Murfreesboro square to celebrate local musicians and help merchants attract business. The festival has stayed true to its roots by promoting and preserving competitive old time music and dance. While expanding it's offerings to include art s and crafts, unique foods, storytelling and even a motor-less parade, the heart of the event continues to be the on-stage and shade tree musicians, and dancers. Presented by the award-winning producers of the Rutherford County Documentary.
